Human factors have a dominating effect on software quality and the successful conclusion of projects. However these effects are so variable it was commonly assumed that they could not be systematically studied and managed.

The ESCOM SCOPE 2000 proved otherwise. On an exceptional scale, the authors demonstrated that quantitative methods could be applied to this subject.

These proceedings include pioneering work to understand human factors and their impact on software projects and product quality. The papers include experience reports, studies of best practices, new research concepts, and in-depth analysis.
